The Four Avenues of Service
Every Rotary has an opportunity to participate in four avenues of service: club, community, international, and vocational service.
Club Service - promotes the spirit of fellowship through weekly meetings and other activities.
Community Service - once described as the "Heartbeat of Rotary," Community Service is a many pronged effort to strengthen the quality of life within our community.
International Service - Rotary has global impact. As Rotarians, we make a difference around the world by supporting international activities.
Vocational Service - Rotary helps us to service others through our vocational and professional skills.
The Four Way Test
The Four Way Test was created by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor in 1932 when asked to take charge of a struggling company. He drew up a 24-word code of ethics for all employees to follow in their business and professional lives.
The 4-Way Test was adopted by Rotary in 1943 and has been translated into more than 100 languages and published in thousands of ways.
The Four Way Test of the things we think, say or do:
| • |
Is it the TRUTH? |
| • |
Is it FAIR to all concerned? |
| • |
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? |
| • |
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? |
